The Bervie Municipal Park, located behind Kinfarm Tire, may be brought back to life in the near future.
One group of citizens wants the park renewed for kids to play in.
Kinfarm Tire would like to buy it to build a storage warehouse.
Both sides were at Kincardine council recently to have their say.
Resident Mike Ferrier presented a petition to council, calling for the park to remain a green space with a playground, baseball diamond and open space.
Ferrier says the village has gone from a retirement community with little use for the park to a younger community, home to families with young children.
He says Bervie Park is the only place the children can play.
Kinfarm’s Adam Kraemer says his business needs to expand and they’re willing to buy the land at the appraised value of $46,000.
Kraemer says they want to create an on-site warehouse for the business.
He admits if the offer isn’t accepted, it will stifle some growth of the business.
Kincardine Councillor Randy Roppel points out the land has NOT been put up for sale by the municipality so he’s not sure where the offer to buy is coming from.
In any event, Roppel says he’s against putting the Bervie Park on the market.
Ferrier says any decision needs to go one way or the other.
He says a compromise won’t work because there’s not enough room on the field for both a warehouse and the amenities the park should have.
Staff will be coming back to council with a report in September.
