The guest this year at the 24th annual Crimestoppers of Grey Bruce Golf Tournament was Hockey Hall of Fame member Adam Oates.
Oates who played the game at a very high level plus broadcast and coached in hockey, is very much a down-to-earth, low key guy, certainly in the environment he found himself in at Chippewa.
What I found interesting, and somewhat a sign of the professional sporting times, was that Oates now offers himself as a personal coach; not just for Minor Hockey players or aspiring Juniors, but rather, Oates has a clientele of NHL’ers.
In his view, he equates it to pro tennis or pro golf where top of the heap contemporary pros often have a former player of note as their personal coach or as a member of their coaching entourage.
There’s only one Adam Oates, currently 7th on the NHL’s all time list of assist leaders.
But rather than seeking to create another, or a bunch of, Adam Oates, what he offers is personal professional coaching for the professional player.
