The Hanover Aquatic Center is undergoing $385,000 in upgrades this summer.
The lions share of this will go towards a $230,000 total roof replacement of the Aquatic Centre.
The bid came in well over budget, and as a result Hanover will be dipping into its general reserves for an additional $130,000 dollars to cover the project.
The project is more costly than anticipated because the Town chose a more expensive Built Up Roof solution, which will pay off in the long run as a better option to deal with humidity and moisture in the Centre.
Aside from the roof project, another $155,000 will be spent on renovations and upgrade work this summer.
That means new windows, electrical upgrades, a new PA/Sound System, sauna reconstruction and a new chemical feed system.
Canada’s 150 Infrastructure Fund has approved giving Hanover $116,000 each from the provincial and federal tiers.
Hanover had hoped to take on a total of eight projects but because of higher than anticipated tender prices, the Town had to scale back this year’s project and defer the other planned upgrades for next year.
This will not impact the government funding so long as the other work is complete next year.
Some of the deferred projects include a new waterslide for the pool, upgrades to the change rooms and washrooms, and new flooring.
