The owner of a waterfront restaurant at Sauble Beach believes he has uncovered proof that a land claim by Saugeen First Nation is invalid.
Dave Dobson has been looking over a map used by the Band and the Federal government.
Dobson says a notation interpreted in the claim to mark the northern limits of the Saugeen Reserve has nothing to do with that.
Instead, he says it refers to the angle of the easterly boundary of Chief’s Point Reserve.
If Dobson is right, his interpretation of the map would mean Saugeen First Nation would end at Main Street in Sauble, not 6th Street.
The Crowd Inn owner has posted the information on his restaurant and online.
He says whether anyone involved in the land claim dispute is reviewing his information, he has no idea.
You may remember over a year ago, a potential settlement meant the First Nation would take over ownership of the waterfront from Main Street to 6th Street.
For Dobson it meant he could run the business, but he would no longer own the land or the business.
He currently has a deed and a crown patent saying he is the rightful owner of the land.
South Bruce Peninsula eventually balked at the proposal and the case may be heard in court in two years time.
