Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire ” brought to you by your local Auto Logic, the Logical Choice.
Today is a Professional Development Day and, in essence, the end of the school year.
A quick thank-you to all of the teachers, primarily at the high school level, who keep me up to date on events, scores and notable performers in the Bluewater Athletic Association throughout the school year.
For years, I’ve firmly believed in the value of a strong athletic program within our schools and how those programs can enhance the various communities within the Bluewater board and beyond.
Among the issues Bluewater is currently facing is a shortage of referees or game officials, especially for burgeoning sports like rugby and field lacrosse.
Because of a lack of game officials locally, refs are being trucked in from elsewhere which leads to additional mileage costs.
Furthermore, with the number of great facilities in the Bluewater region, some high profile tournaments and championships aren’t being contested locally due to a lack of numbers in the officiating department.
That’s not good for our athletes and it’s certainly not good for our communities who could always use the financial boost a multi school tournament brings.
While it’s not a dire need, there is a need for new refs and more refs and the Association is being proactive here, hoping that many will consider officiating come Fall and the start of the next Bluewater Athletic Association season.
I’m Fred Wallace
