Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire ” brought to you by your local Auto Logic, the Logical Choice.
For a second consecutive year, the Aquatic Facility in Owen Sound will be the site of a Provincial Lifeguard Championship.
This weekend, close to 250 athletes from across the Province will compete in the Junior Games at the Y, participating in a series of events that combine the timing of racing but add in the obstacles and challenges a future lifeguard may face.
Tossing the line to a specific target, dragging a mannequin from below surface, swimming over, under and around obstacles to reach a destination; those are a few of the activities included in this unique competition.
The Saugeen Shores Lifesaving Club were the local pioneers in the concept and with Owen Sound’s facility being an excellent host site, a partnership was formed and that partnership led to the creation of a Lifesaving Club in Owen Sound who will also compete this weekend.
There’s a lot of positives to be found in this event, but best of all in my eyes is the high level of local participation among youngsters up to the mid-teens, in essence, our future lifeguards.
I’m Fred Wallace
