Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire ” brought to you by your local Auto Logic- the Logical Choice.
What did the 92 year old umpire say to the 2 former OHL goalies about the trickery involved in landing the Waterloo based Senior Lacrosse player in Owen Sound ?
………I don’t know what the punchline is, but it did represent the recent Owen Sound Sports Hall of Fame Induction Night.
Staged a little more than a week ago, the 2016 Induction Ceremony was very successful from every standpoint. From the social to the meal from the Boot and Blade, from the eventual welcome by our mayor to the videos and speeches from the inductees and representatives, it sailed rather smoothly.
What gets forgotten too soon afterwards, is how significant the night is to the inductees and their families and supporters.
Ask any of the 2016 inductees about the night, and I almost guarantee you that they would use the word ” humbled ” in their description of the evening and process.
Ask any of the beaming family members or an inductees’ supporter, and I’m certain they would quickly relate how meaningful that moment in the evening is when their candidate is squarely in the spotlight….one more time.
Like I said, the truly special moments for the Owen Sound Sports Hall of Fame comes, hits a climax and then slips away as we get caught up in what comes next in our lives.
Still, two years from now there likely will be a repeat of the 2016 Induction Night and the many other induction nights dating back to the early 80’s when the 2018 Owen Sound Sports Hall of Fame Induction Night is staged.
I’m Fred Wallace
