The former Stone Tree golf course just south of Owen Sound has been sold.
Local businessman and property owner Jeff Mundle has bought the property on Highway 6, just south of the city.
Jeff Mundle, owner of Mundle Electrical and Mechanical, bought the property from Balnar Management of Guelph with help from his wife Lane McMeekin, a local Real Estate Broker with RE/MAX Grey Bruce.
The sale, which closed earlier this week, includes an apartment complex, a fitness centre, banquet and event facilities and 200 acres of land.
Mundle tells Bayshore Broadcasting News he takes possession of Stone Tree at the end of the month and plans to update the Georgian Apartment complex.
He also has long term goals to enhance and sustain other aspects of the property, with plans to update the apartments and the building itself more energy efficient, and putting in new heating systems.
Mundle says Stone Tree, its fitness centre and pool will remain open during the upgrades.
As for food service, Mundle says he’s not able to say right now what will be happening with the dining portion of the facility but an announcement will be made shortly.
The kitchen is currently leased by Schwandt Catering Company.
Mundle says “We are going to take some time to finalize our plans and will be able to announce these in a few days.”
He notes “Stone Tree has always been a very important part of Owen Sound and we are proud to be able to keep it in the community and create a facility that can continue to make a contribution to our home town.”
As the owner of the McKay building downtown and several other local properties, Mundle says negotiations with the seller could not have gone more smoothly.
Mundle is not releasing details of the purchase price.
