Hi this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire ” brought to you by your local Auto Logic….the Logical Choice.
This is an advancer….a very lengthy advancer, but without doubt there’s a building sense of anticipation in Chesley.
The Chesley Curling Club will host the Provincial Elementary School TIMBITS Curling Championship in 2017.
It’s been awhile, but Chesley has hosted this event before, some 15 years ago in 2002 when they had 80 teams.
This year at the Timbits in Gananoque, there were 54 teams competing, so Chesley is hoping for elevated numbers in 2017, a return to the past with a goal of 80 rinks competing again.
The natural thought is that Chesley would need to outsource to other Curling Clubs in the region in order to host this event, but the committee’s goal is to play in Chesley and stay in Chesley.
To that end, the existing plan is to convert the arena ice surface into 6 additional sheets of curling ice to compliment the 4 sheets within the Chesley Curling Club, and just like that, you’ll have 10 sheets on the go at any given time
Timbits Curling is the very essence of what grassroots sports is and should be.
And while the event is a loooong way off, the planning and preparation are underway and the initial request from the organizers is to have a heavy load of volunteer supporters.
Anyone interested in assisting the 2017 Timbits can call Brenda at 519-363-2086.
Chesley isn’t a BIG place, but the 2017 Timbits Curling Championship in the village should be a BIG deal.
I’m Fred Wallace
