Hi this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire ” brought to you by your local Auto Logic….the Logical Choice.
Not that long ago, I did a piece in this segment pertaining to sports gambling.
My thesis was that Canada was losing $3.5 billion in potential tax revenues because Canadians were making single game wagers on web sites beyond the Canadian Criminal Code jurisdiction, rather trying to make parlay bets through ProLine.
Naturally, I was bushwhacked by the Puritans who were outraged by my suggestion, primarily because they felt I was endorsing gambling and the many social ailments that go along with it.
I get what they’re saying.
But here’s my point…………
1) This is Canada, a free country.
2) It’s MY money, and in a free country, I should be able to spend MY money as I see fit, so long as it’s not directed to a criminal activity- and gambling, in my view, is NOT a crime.
& 3) if I do become a gambling addict and flush my financial holdings down the drain….isn’t that MY problem ?
Too often, to our society’s credit I guess, we stand up for the weak, the sick and the stupid.
I’ll bet you that if we stood up for those groups a little less, they might not be as weak, as sick or as stupid as someone who becomes a gambling addict.
I’m Fred Wallace
