Hi this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire ” brought to you by your local Auto Logic….the Logical Choice.
The Ontario Hockey League Playoffs are heading to a climax, eventually the Robertson Cup Championship and then the OHL Champion will represent the league at the Memorial Cup in Red Deer, Alberta.
With the regular season behind us, it’s also time for the year-end awards, highlighted by the Red Tilson Award which is given to the Most Outstanding Player in the OHL.
We have this discussion every year; should the Red Tilson Award go to the most outstanding player, or should it go to the most outstanding and valuable player to his team ?
That tiny differential euchres me every time, and this year is no exception.
Based on the nominees for the 20 OHL clubs, I’d suggest that Mitch Marner of the London Knights is the Most Outstanding
But is Mitch Marner the most valuable to his team ?
I’d say no.
And with no offence intended to Mitch Marner, if my ballot leans towards the most outstanding AND most valuable player to his team, my selection would be Mike Amadio of the North Bay Battalion.
For the last decade, I’ve never once picked the Red Tilson winner correctly, and this year’s choice is another tough one.
And who’s to say Kevin Labanc of the Barrie Colts doesn’t come up the middle and snatch the honour on his own ?
Today is the deadline for the media vote on the Red Tilson Award and we’ll see if Marner, Amadio or Labanc on my ballot come through
I’m Fred Wallace
