Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire ” brought to you by your local Auto Logic…….the Logical Choice.
As the baseball season gets rolling it’s time to talk money.
Remember the 60’s and the 70’s when all we talked about where batting averages, homers, rbi, a pitcher’s era and who we thought would win the four divisions.
I think that all changed when Rennie Stennett, a fairly average Major Leaguer, got a million dollar contract to play second base for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Pirates could obviously afford Stennett, they’re still in business 35 years later, but they’re far from the cream of the financial crop in baseball
Forbes Magazine released its annual estimates for the teams in major league baseball and once again the New York Yankees are worth the most, estimated by Forbes at $3.4 billion.
Batting 2nd, 3rd & cleanup are the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Boston Red Sox and the San Francisco Giants who to my surprise are more valuable than the Chicago Cubs.
At the bottom of the financial trough are the Miami Marlins at $675 million just ahead of the Oakland A’s and having been to Oakland last year, that’s no surprise.
The Toronto Blue Jays ? Forbes has them ranked as the 22nd most valuable team in Major League Baseball.
I’m Fred Wallace
