Hi, this is Fred Wallace with Off the Wire brought to you by your local Auto Logic, the Logical Choice.
This might be comparing apples and oranges, but indulge me….
Back in mid-January of 2015, I went to an Ottawa Senators game against Carolina.
The Hurricanes won a tight affair that night, but the overall game didn’t inspire any visions of glory, especially not for Ottawa who played hard, but didn’t have it, at least in my opinion.
Lo and behold, with unheralded netminder Andrew Hammond between the pipes, the Senators went on a remarkable run, gained an unlikely playoff berth and gave Montreal a huge battle in the opening round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
This year, with visions of progression everywhere, the Senators reverted to the form of January 2015, missed the playoffs and gassed coach Dave Cameron this week.
Comparing apples to oranges, are the hockey Senators any different than the Major League Blue Jays ?
On August 1st last year, the Jays were .500 at best, and then bolstered by a sequence of acquisitions, Toronto followed with an utterly blissful run through October.
With visions of glory everywhere through the off season, the Jays have been lurched out of the starting gate.
Yes, there’s 150 games to play…but what if the Toronto Blue Jays are in fact the fruity equal of the Ottawa Senators ?
I’m Fred Wallace
