Hi, this is Fred Wallace with Off the Wire, brought to you by your local Auto Logic, the Logical Choice.
Like Sherman and Peabody we seem to be in the ” Way Back Machine ” these days.
The ” Way Back Machine ” is sending us back exactly 20 years to 1996.
First, there was the Masters Sunday at Augusta, Georgia.
Danny Willett shot a final-round 5-under 67 to win the tournament by 3 shots.
What’s more remarkable is that Willett bypassed the defending champion Jordan Spieth who utterly collapsed on the back nine shooting a quadruple bogey on one hole.
Twenty years ago, Nick Faldo won the Masters but only because Greg Norman caved on a 6 stroke lead, a fold that’s been rehashed every year for 20 years.
Next, the Golden State Warriors scored a remarkable win at San Antonio on Sunday for their 72nd win of the year.
That victory ties the NBA record for wins in a season established by the Chicago Bulls……in 1996.
The Warriors host Memphis tomorrow night in their final game of the regular season and obviously a win at home will create flashbacks and comparisons to 1996
Just for giggles, I Googled, April 12, 1996 and found a unique entry in history…the Detroit Red Wings beat Chicago to become the first NHL team with 61 wins in a season.
Anyone think the Wings will beat the Hawks for the Stanley Cup in 2016 ?
I’m Fred Wallace
