Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire ” brought to you by your local Auto Logic…the Logical Choice.
Timelines are funny.
For example, you may think a sequence of events took place over a short period of time, yet in reality the timeframe is extended, almost beyond your own belief.
I got thinking about that in light of the Eugene Melnyk outburst last week where the Senators owner put everyone in the organization on notice for Ottawa’s pending non-playoff appearance.
When I heard the Melnyk rant, I quickly remembered being at Game 7 of a Leafs-Ottawa playoff series at the Air Canada Centre.
The Senators, in particular netminder Patrick Lalime, stumbled early and the Leafs went on to post a 4-1 win and took the series.
Afterwards as we waited for our ride, we ran into two coaches of the St Mike’s Majors, the OHL club that was also owned by Melnyk.
Sheepishly, Dave Cameron and Bobby Jones surmised that the Ottawa dressing room had been penetrated by a fuming Melnyk and coach Jacques Martin was on the hot seat.
All of that seems like yesterday, but in fact the span between Melnyk’s memorable meltdowns was 12 years.
Time flies
I’m Fred Wallace
