Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire ” brought to you by your local Auto Logic….the Logical Choice.
I get asked periodically about the road, and the travel involved with following the Owen Sound Attack.
Overall, I rather like it, especially when unexpected pleasant surprises pop up.
On the last Attack junket that wound its way from here to North Bay to Sudbury and then Barrie, there were at least 3 great encounters.
At Shoeless Joe’s in North Bay, a group of guys came in, noticed the Attack logo and congratulated the coaches on a well played victory that night against the Battalion.
One member of the group, without mentioning his name, volunteered that he played in the OHL for Windsor and then North Bay.
It took some thought, but when the group returned to wish the Attack luck later in the night, I wondered, ‘ are you Robin Boucher ? ‘…It was.
The next night in Sudbury, just seconds before I went on air, Kenny Desjardins poked his head into the booth to say hi.
Kenny who owns the Metro Store in Hanmer, was a Midland neighbour, my longest friend and the ultimate example of what you can achieve in life regardless of your starting line.
Since we were staying in Sudbury that night, Kenny & I swapped stories of Midlanders we’ll never forget.
Finally, the next morning while loading the bus at the Sudbury Arena, former Attack forward Trevor Blanchard, on his way to a Rec League game, said hello.
Coaching Midget Hockey now, Blanchard who still has that hard glare, hopes to join the Laurentian hockey staff in the near future.
Robin Boucher. Kenny Desjardins. And Trevor Blanchard.
I wonder who we’ll encounter this week
I’m Fred Wallace
