Hi, this is Fred Wallace with Off the Wire, brought to you by your local Auto Logic…the Logical Choice.
Branch 6 of the Royal Canadian Legion in Owen Sound won the Provincial Legion Snooker Championship in Toronto over the weekend.
The Branch 6 foursome was comprised of Barry Brick, Lauchlan MacArthur, Lou Skiba and Steve West
The format for the event saw each member play 2 head to head games against opposing Legion members.
After going 6 & 2 in their individual games, Owen Sound needed to compete in a one game playoff showdown for the title and Steve West scored the decisive victory.
That victory marked the 3rd time Branch 6 Owen Sound has won the Royal Canadian Legion Snooker title.
Previously, the local Legion won the Ontario title in 1977 and again in the year 2000.
While the Legion Snooker Tournament didn’t make TSN, Sportsnet or The Score, it is significant in my view, not just because the local Branch won, but rather because it represents yet another level of support within the city, the region, the province and the country from the Royal Canadian Legion.
How many of us have played for a Legion ball team, a Legion Hockey team or some activity supported by the Legion ?
Furthermore, how many of our community projects, in Owen Sound and beyond, have benefited from Legion funding ?
So when the opportunity arises, please support your Legion, because they’ve supported us for a century.
I’m Fred Wallace
