Hi, this is Fred Wallace with Off the Wire brought to you by your local Auto Logic…the Logical Choice.
There’s a lot on the line tonight when the Owen Sound Attack host the Barrie Colts in Ontario Hockey League action.
In terms of the Conference standings, the game means a little more to the Attack than the Colts.
Owen Sound is just 2 points up on Sault Ste Marie for 6th place in the Western Conference.
The Colts by comparison are almost locked into 2nd in the Eastern Conference.
Yes, mathematically, Barrie could catch Kingston or be bypassed by North Bay; but that seems unlikely.
That’s not to suggest the game is meaningless to Barrie, especially for Kevin Labanc.
Labanc who is aiming to lead the OHL in scoring, has 119 points, just 2 shy of Sheldon Keefe’s franchise record established in 1999-2000.
Plus, a little bit of history is on the line here.
The Colts are 5 & 0 against Owen Sound this year.
Since Barrie came into the OHL in 1995, neither team has been able to completely sweep the head-to-head season series.
Yes, Owen Sound won 6 times in 2010-11, but one of those victories was a shootout win, so technically, Owen Sound didn’t completely sweep.
Tonight, Barrie has a chance to sweep the season series, solidify their hold on 2nd and maybe see Kevin Labanc set a franchise record for points.
Tonight, the Attack can avoid the sweep and maintain their hold on 6th place in the Western Conference.
Game time tonight is 7 pm at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Centre
I’m Fred Wallace
