The Flanagan’s Foodservice distribution centre in Owen Sound will be relocated to Whitby in early 2017, and the company is trying to avoid any job losses.
Marketing Manager, Jackie Oakes, is based at the company’s Kitchener headquarters — and she says 25 of Flanagan’s Owen Sound employees will be offered positions at other locations, while the sales staff will remain in the area.
The firm operates distribution centres in Kitchener, Sudbury and Owen Sound.
Oakes tells Bayshore Broadcasting News by relocating to Whitby, Flanagan’s Foodservice will be able to better expand its operations throughout Ontario.
She says a warehouse has been purchased in Whitby and it’ll be renovated to accommodate the growing demands on the company.
Oakes says the fate of the distribution centre on 6th Avenue East in Owen Sound hasn’t been decided, but she concedes the building may be sold.
Flanagan’s is the largest Canadian-owned, independent food service distributor in Canada, and it provides full service to more than 6,000 restaurants in Ontario.
