2017 could be a big year for Kevin O’Brien and the Chippewa Golf Club in Southampton that he now owns.
O’Brien is looking at a minor redesign of the golf course so he can build roughly 50 townhomes and 25 single detached homes.
At this point, O’Brien says he still needs to get all the necessary approvals, but the idea is to put up the townhouses where the 18th hole is currently located.
The golf course will continue to operate in Southampton and to maintain 18 holes, he will split one of the par 5 holes into two.
O’Brien hopes to have construction begin in 2017, and his best case scenario will be getting shovels in the ground in the spring.
Prices for the townhomes will likely start around $300,000 with single detached homes at the golf course going for about $400,000.
They will be designed as condominiums offering a maintenance-free lifestyle.
O’Brien and his three brothers briefly owned the Owen Sound Golf and Country club before it was sold to Mike Balnar and became Legacy Ridge.
They also developed the Bluewater district school board’s former administration office in Markdale into a health clinic four years ago.
