The Chair of Safe n’ Sound’s Board of Directors says it’s premature to speculate about the organizations plans to purchase a downtown 8th Street East building.
Diane Eaton tells Bayshore Broadcasting News the Owen Sound-based crisis hub is seeking new membership before it can consider expansion plans.
She says the not-for-profit group is eager to attract professionals from a variety of fields, including real estate, community collaboration, fundraising and social media.
Eaton reiterates that it’s far too early to discuss the possible purchase of the 8th Street East building, where Safe ‘n Sound’s ‘The Space’ rents a storefront.
It’s also premature discuss a possible emergency shelter in the building’s upstairs.
The owner of the property at 310 8th Street East is retiring and leaving the Owen Sound area, so Safe n’ Sound may be able to purchase the building.
Eaton says the Board of Directors will gather to review options and hear a presentation from former City Councillor Colleen Purdon.
Safe n’ Sound’s ‘The Space’ serves between 45 to 60 people regularly, offering visitors food, access to computers, showers and a place to socialize.
In collaboration with the Owen Sound Family ‘Y’ housing department, Safe n’ Sound also operates an emergency shelter help-line to place homeless individuals in temporary accommodations/housing.
Grey County provides the organization with $2,000 per month to offset operation costs and other expenses, including rent.
