Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire ” brought to you by Auto Logic, the Logical Choice.
On the lengthy road home from the Nation’s Capital Saturday night, I got thinking about the positive results the Owen Sound Attack had on the weekend; winning 5-2 games at Kingston and then at Ottawa.
I also had it in my head that Owen Sound has enjoyed a lengthy run of success head to head against Eastern Conference clubs, so I decided to tabulate.
Using almost a 5 year sample, from the start of the 2011-12 Ontario Hockey League season through last weekend, the Attack had played 112 games against Eastern Conference teams.
The record; 70-30 in favour of the Attack.
Owen Sound also garnered points in 12 other defeats by virtue of losing 4 times in overtime and 8 shootout decisions.
So, of 224 possible points over that span, the Attack accumulated 152, which translates to a winning percentage of .678…..
.678 !!
Sure, there are 8 games remaining against Eastern Conference teams this year for Owen Sound, and their 5 year rate of success could easily be sewered by a string of losses to Barrie (3 games ), Mississauga, Niagara, North Bay, Oshawa and Sudbury in the near future.
Still, you can’t help notice the staggering ratio of wins to losses favoring the Attack when facing the Eastern Conference.
You also can’t help but wonder what Owen Sound’s OHL history would be if they played in another Conference.
But the reality is that Owen Sound is in the Western Conference and Midwest Division and looks ahead to divisional games tomorrow night at London and Saturday night at home to Guelph.
