Drivers now have a tool to help them navigate the roads during the winter months in Grey Bruce and Simcoe counties.
The Ministry of Transport has launched a pilot program called “Track My Plow”.
Director of Maintenance for the Ministry of Transport, Kevin Bentley says it is an online service that allows you to track snowplows on provincial highways in the area.
Through the MTO’s website — www.mto.gov.on.ca — and the Track My Plow website — www.trackmyplow.com — drivers will get up to the minute information on road conditions.
You will now know when snowplows have already cleared roads and when they are expected to be in your area.
These are provincial highways only, not County or township roads.
Bentley says the 511 traveller information services through the MTO website, have also introduced several new enhancements.
Those include Twitter accounts to help travellers get more accurate reporting for their specific areas.
There are 140 new cameras to provide online users with more sight lines to better self-assess winter road conditions, more accurate road condition reporting that includes a date/time stamp.
511 Ontario will also include current Environment Canada weather alerts.
