Ski resorts can only green and bare it as the forecast holds no promise of snow or cold weather through Christmas Day.
One run is operating at Horseshoe Resort and Sir Sam’s, but the rest are in a holding pattern as they gear up for the holidays and what is supposed to be among the big money makers of the season.
Blue Mountain Resort spokesperson Tara Lovell says they have managed to open a beginner terrain for the kids.
But otherwise, to keep people outdoors — they have opened their green season attractions such as mini-putt, the Ridge Runner and the ropes course.
Lovell says they have had some ski and snowboarder cancellations but they have made that up with people who may not be into winter activities but want to experience a ski resort at Christmas.
At Hardwood Ski and Bike, staff do not make snow — so they’re at the mercy of Mother Nature.
Assistant General Manager Gareth Houben says they have had other Christmas times in the past where they haven’t been open and there isn’t much they can do about it.
Houben says they know the snow will come and when it does — the people will come with it.
January and February is the busiest ski time at Hardwood, however, snow on the ground at this time of year does get people into their retail store.
