Changes are being made to the town of Wasaga Beach’s animal control by-law.
The matter was discussed at a special council meeting on Tuesday afternoon.
The amendment allows a by-law officer to legally go on to someone’s private property to capture an animal.
This came about because of unsuccessful attempts to catch “Socks”, a stray dog that has roamed free for around ten years or more.
A report from the by-law department states there has been a lot of public concern because Socks has been showing signs of medical distress.
There have been a number of posts on social media about the dog.
The report says attempts by the OSPCA to capture Socks have been thwarted by local residents refusing entry onto property when the dog was running from yard to yard.
The report further says that the by-law amendment will allow the town to more effectively manage the capture of any dogs running at large.
