There’s a unique hockey rematch set for Wednesday night in Wingham.
The National Women’s Hockey team from China are returning to go against the Saugeen Maitland Lightning Midget ” AA ” team.
A year ago, the Chinese ladies, who in fairness are a tad older than the Lightning, produced 3 power play markers and blanked Saugeen Maitland 3-0.
Everyone agreed the contest a year ago was a major success and truly beneficial to everyone involved.
The Chinese entry, who set up camp in Toronto, get a midweek game against a team that can hold its own against an Olympic opponent.
The Lightning get a marquee game that truly serves as a measuring stick for their players and program.
And finally, the region gets a working example of high calibre women’s hockey and exposes what Saugeen Maitland has to offer and what options may exist beyond the Lightning program.
Game time Wednesday night is 7 pm at the North Huron Wescast Community Complex in Wingham
