Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire ” brought to you by Auto Logic, the Logical Choice.
I spent Sunday morning at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Centre watching the four divisional championship games in the Regional Silver Stick.
It was a great day for the Owen Sound Minor Hockey Group whose annual tournament attracted close to 30 teams and ran virtually seamlessly through the weekend climaxing with 4 excellent finals.
It was an even greater day for two Owen Sound Minor Hockey Group teams; the Garb & Gear Attack Minor Peewees and the Firefighter Attack Minor Bantams who won their respective championships.
Garb & Gear beat Barrie 3-1 to win the Minor Peewee Division while the Firefighter Minor Bantams blanked Brantford 3-0 for their title.
As you might see from those scores, it was a great weekend for goaltenders; Noah Hemstock and Preston Downs were excellent for Owen Sound and both the Minor Atom and Minor Midget games went to overtime primarily due to the goalkeeping.
It was an excellent Sunday for hockey. In 180 minutes of Championship play, there were just 9 minors. Amazing
And, if you looked around the city and region this weekend, you know that the annual Owen Sound Silver Stick was a nice boost for tourism and the economy.
I’m Fred Wallace
