Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire ” brought to you by Auto Logic, the Logical Choice.
With the fantastic and often thrilling run by the Toronto Blue Jays to the American League Championship Series this year, optimism for 2016 was at its peak.
Then came Thursday and the departure of General Manager Alex Anthopoulos which touched off outrage everywhere among Blue Jay fans.
While I commend the Jays, and, in particular, Anthopoulos for the success in 2015, I’d be cautious of thinking next year will be better.
I’m not saying 2015 was a fluke, but you’ve got to admit, Anthopoulos and the Jays had a lot of things go their way….
Josh Donaldson, Troy Tulowitzki, Ben Revere, David Price, youthful set up man Aaron Sanchez, even younger closer Roberto Osuna, Kevin Pillar and…..well, the point is an awful lot of things went right in one season.
The previous half decade…….
There’s no reason history can’t repeat itself. But history seldom does.
And for 22 baseball seasons, Toronto was history long before the post season and the sense I’ve always had, is that in a division with the Yankees and Red Sox, spending plans and upgrades are well underway in New York and Boston and elsewhere making a repeat trip to the post season for Toronto a little less than a sure thing….maybe more so now with the depature of Alex Anthopoulos
I’m Fred Wallace
