Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, brought to you by Auto Logic, the Logical Choice.
The World Series begins tonight in Kansas City with the Royals hosting the New York Mets.
Before we look ahead, let’s look back at two quick items…..
First, on July 14th at the great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, the American League defeated the National League 6-3 in the Major League Baseball All Star Game.
While I’m not a huge fan of all star games, I give MLB credit, for spicing up theirs in recent years, adding the proviso that the winning league gets home field advantage come World Series time.
The American League won the All Star Game…..the Royals get home field advantage.
And that’s big as we look back to item # 2.
The Toronto Blue Jays clinched the AL East title in September and then promptly went with a secondary lineup at Baltimore while still in a tight battle for first place overall with KC in the AL.
At the time, I wondered if the Blue Jays wouldn’t regret ” resting ” the battle worn with significant wins still be obtained.
As it turns out, KC finished with the best record in the American League and promptly defeated the Blue Jays in the ALCS in 6 games……….winning Game 1, Game 2 and Game 6………..in Kansas City.
But that’s in the past.
Tonight, Matt Harvey for the Mets against Edinson Volquez of the Royals as the World Series begins at Kaufman Stadium
I’m Fred Wallace
