Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, brought to you by Auto Logic, the Logical Choice.
With the World Series set to commence tomorrow, I got thinking about baseball literature.
The ranking for my favorite baseball books would definitely include ” Big Hair and Plastic Grass. “
In hockey, if you asked me to rate the best books I’ve read; the top 3 would be; ” Rebel League “, ” The Making of Slap Shot ” and ” Thunder and Lightning. “
Looking at those listed selections, I wonder is it the writing, or is it my age bracket ?
All 4 are 70’s books- the 1970’s being the years of my youth and my teens, when baseball and hockey pretty much dominated any other thought I may have had.
To the list comes a release from Stephen Cole titled ” Hockey Night Fever . “
The cover art makes you think ” Saturday Night Fever “, again a 70’s tie in, but more so, Cole’s decade examination of the 70’s found a feverish pitch on the ice paralleled a fever pitch in national and world events.
It’s good reading; the game, the sport, the stars, the teams and the times.
” Hockey Night Fever ” by Stephen Cole
I’m Fred Wallace
