Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off The Wire “, brought to you by Auto Logic, the Logical Choice.
The baseball season for the Toronto Blue Jays hangs in the balance tonight….and if they’re fortunate, it will hang in the balance tomorrow night too.
The Blue Jays are in Kansas City to meet the Royals in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series.
In a sometimes wacky, often teeter-tottering sequence, the Royals lead the best of 7; 3-2 and need 1 more win to advance to the World series against the New York Mets.
The Mets ?!
That’s an illustration of how funny baseball can be.
When the Mets clinched the National League East, to me, they looked like the weakest of the 5 NL horses, certainly not as solid as the Cardinals, Pirates, Cubs or Dodgers- yet the Mets prevailed and await the Jays or Royals.
Such is the curious fate that awaits Toronto Manager John Gibbons.
If the Jays complete a 3 game win streak with a win tonight and a Game 7 triumph tomorrow night, he’s a genius.
Conversely, if KC wins a game at home, Gibbons will be skewered in many circles as a dummy.
Actually, John Gibbons is neither a genius, nor a dummy.
He’s simply a leader of a group of baseball professionals who hope to stay alive until tomorrow night and then hope to still be swinging come Tuesday.
I’m Fred Wallace
