Hi this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, brought to you by Auto Logic, the Logical Choice.
For two days this week, I watched pre-teens running their hearts out at the two Bluewater Elementary Cross Country Meets.
The West Meet, the annual Bob Atkinson Memorial Meet, was Monday at Saugeen Bluffs near Paisley.
The following day, the East Meet was conducted at 4th Division Canadian Training Centre in the Municipality of Meaford.
There were many highlights over the course of the two days, as you would expect with 14 different age divisions in action.
Of note from the West, Port Elgin Saugeen Central won the school title and Mathew Beitz of MCPS was the winner of the Challenge Race.
Meanwhile in the East, the most remarkable race was the Grade 8 Boys run where the winner, Tayden Hannivan from Highpoint, managed to beat the rabbit to the finish line, a real rarity.
Regardless of who won what, the Bluewater Elementary Cross Country Meets continually stand out as an excellent example of the link between activity, fitness and academics with close to 2,000 youngsters participating this week.
I’m Fred Wallace
