Hi this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, brought to you by Auto Logic, the Logical Choice.
In his third NHL game, Edmonton Oilers rookie Connor McDavid scored his first ever NHL goal.
I have no doubt if the universe unfolds as it should, McDavid will score many more in the years ahead.
However, NHL players of every description will tell you how memorable and emotional their first NHL goal is.
Here’s McDavid.

In the clip McDavid is pretty low-key. The description of his first ever goal came minutes after the Oilers lost their third straight to start the season, 4-2 at Dallas on Tuesday night.
The scenario for Connor McDavid isn’t a great deal different than the one he encountered in the Ontario Hockey League at Erie- a young but obviously soon-to-be-great player taxed with leading a seemingly hapless club out of the wilderness.
That was the Connor McDavid I first saw on November 2nd, 2012.
That was the Connor McDavid who dazzled me with what was his 8th career OHL goal.

Connor McDavid will likely never forget his first NHL goal for the Oilers.
I doubt I’ll forget the first time I saw him score live at Erie against the Attack 3 short years ago.
I’m Fred Wallace
