Hi this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, brought to you by Auto Logic, the Logical Choice.
The Baseball Playoffs offer the best of the sport and to a certain degree illustrates many of the flaws in the game.
Monday there were 4 games, all of them pivotal, and you can’t beat that in terms of exposing the most crucial games on one single day for your fans..
However, tell me that I’m wrong, when I say baseball games, especially post season games, generally start too late, and take too long to reach a conclusion.
To me, they’ve lost a portion of the older fans and may never attract some of the youngest fans.
The Blue Jays have been the talk of the region for almost 3 months, and with good reason.
But to me, it’s funny, and certainly telling in a negative way, that the flock of Blue Jay followers have arrived en masse only when the team was winning.
Where have you been for 22 years ?
Next, the expanded baseball playoffs create more excitement in more cities. I concede that.
However, is it best for the sport when the # 1 team in the regular season, the Cardinals, and the # 2 team, the Pirates are both eliminated within a week by the # 3 club, the Cubs ?
And finally, the World Series remains one of the most significant sporting events in North America and beyond.
But is MLB playing with fire, or snow shovels, when the Championship Series is due to start October 27th ?
Go Jays
I’m Fred Wallace
