Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, brought to you by Auto Logic, the Logical Choice.
Let’s try a little trivia today.
When was the last time the Owen Sound entry in the Ontario Hockey League started a season with 3 straight wins……… ?
Or how about this, when was the ONLY time the Owen Sound OHL entry started the year with 3 straight wins ………?
The answer…………………………..1989, the very first season in the Scenic City.
On Wednesday September 20th, 1989, the Platers won their first ever game at home, shading Kitchener 5-4.
Two nights later in Sault Ste Marie, Grayden Reid had a hat trick in a come-from-behind victory over the Greyhounds.
And then on Sunday September 24th at Sudbury, Mike Parson blanked the Wolves 4-0 to give Owen Sound a 3 & 0 start to the season.
Since that September in 1989, Owen Sound has NEVER come out of the gate 3 & 0.
Sure, in 1998 they tied Ottawa on opening night, and then reeled off three straight wins, but that’s not 3 & 0, is it ?
In the Championship season, Owen Sound won 8 of their first 9 games, but the lone loss was on opening night at Guelph.
( Remember Andrew Shaw missing two breakaways that night and thinking, ‘ nice trade, DeGray ‘ ).
All of which brings us to this evening. The Attack at 2 & 0 host the Flint Firebirds, also 2 & 0 at 7 pm at the JD McArthur Arena.
Can Ryan McGill’s team equal what Len McNamara’s team did 26 years ago ?
I’m Fred Wallace
