Hi this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, brought to you by Auto Logic…..the Logical Choice !
I was sitting here one day, typing away with two fingers, when I got lost in a local sports flashback….a decade or so ago.
It struck me as funny, as sad & as strange how much has been altered, and how much has disappeared from the local sporting landscape.
In 2003, in their third year of existence, the Owen Sound Woodsmen hosted the President’s Cup for the Canadian Senior Lacrosse Championship.
A week later, the Owen Sound Selects won the Canadian Men’s Fastball Championship at Duncan McLellan Park.
In the Winter of 2004, the Ontario Men’s Curling Championships were staged at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Centre.
In that era, the Junior B Dutchmen generally made the lacrosse playoffs, the Greys were contenders in Junior B Hockey & Hanover Raceway had 31 dates per year.
Bluewater Track & Field, Ringette, and so many other activities from that era have been replaced or vanished entirely.
Was 2002-2005 a golden era for local sports or am I not paying attention to what’s happening in the here & now ?
I’m Fred Wallace
