Hi this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire ” brought to you by Auto Logic, the Logical Choice.
There’s always a dilemma in sports organizations, maybe more so in amateur sports.
Take the Ontario Amateur Softball Association as an example.
In July of this year, the Junior Elimination Tournament was conducted at Duncan McLellan Park in Owen Sound with 4 teams qualifying to advance to the Canadian Junior Championships staged earlier this month at Napanee.
The dilemma for the O.A.S.A. was that all 4 of the qualifying teams had done so by the end of play on the Saturday night, which, to a certain extent, rendered the games a little less meaningful.
If only ONE team was to qualify for the Canadian Championship Tournament, the theory goes, Sunday would have been far more strategic, far more intense than what actually transpired.
Of course, by sending 4 Ontario entries to a Canadian Championship means close to 60 ball players get to experience a National Championship, which is seen as a key to maintaining, if not growing, the sport of fastball.
Four or Less ?
One or more ?
A dilemma, no question, for the Ontario Amateur Softball Association.
I’m Fred Wallace
