Hi this is Fred Wallace with Off the Wire…..brought to you by Auto Logic….the Logical Choice.
So the last leg of my ” Alaska ” trip is in San Francisco home of the World Series Champion Giants.
After 2 trips to Safeco Field in Seattle, I can’t wait to experience A-T & T Park.
…………..One problem; the Giants were in New York playing the Mets when I was in San Fran. Bummer.
No problem said the concierge at the Fisherman’s Wharf Holiday Inn, ‘ why don’t you book our Town Car and we’ll take you to Oakland to see Sonny Gray and the A’s play Texas. It’s only a half hour away. ‘
Great, I’m IN !
However, San Francisco traffic is the epitome of gridlock and even my nifty Phillippino driver can’t get me to Oakland before the start of the 2nd inning.
That was disappointing.
And so too was the atmosphere in the Oracle Arena/Coliseum;
-It’s not a cosmetic beauty, dingy is a better description. Or rugged.
– If you wanted a beer before the game, you simply had to knock on any car window in the parking lot and the driver would gladly pull one from his trunk.
– The vehicle trunks, by the way, had other substances for sale too.
In fairness to the A’s, it was a Tuesday night with rain in the forecast and the Warriors were in the NBA Final that night at Cleveland which impacted the crowd, ( a good portion of whom were there for Korean Appreciation Night ).
I will say this, their stadium staff tried their best and were very nice.
On the field, poor Sonny Gray got tagged for 9 hits in an eventual 2-1 loss to Texas.
I won’t get into the post game track meet through the parking lot and across the thoroughfare to get back to my driver; suffice it to say, I was a tad concerned and I won’t be eager to go back to the Oracle Arena in Oakland.
I’m Fred Wallace
