Hi this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, brought to you by Auto Logic, the Logical Choice.
The Pan Am Games in Toronto were a smashing success in the eyes of many.
So well received was the event, that the potential of a Summer Olympic Games in Toronto was ignited at virtually the same moment the torch was extinguished.
To tell the absolute truth, I’m vastly more interested in the Para Pan Games this week than I was in the Pan Am Games last month or any Olympic Games on the horizon in Toronto.
The primary reason for the interest is the number of competitors from our region.
Today is an active day for those athletes from our region.
Karen Van Nest from Wiarton will be competing in archery today.
Yesterday, Van Nest won her semifinal match in women’s singles to advance to the final.
Also today, Josh Farrell of Port Elgin, a member of the Saugeen Track and Field Club will compete in the Shot Put
And finally, Jason Crone of Owen Sound will be in action with Canada’s Wheelchair Rugby team
Canada has victories over Brazil and Colombia already with Crone scoring 3 goals against Brazil and having 7 points against Colombia.
The Canadian entry will play Argentina this afternoon
So with no disrespect to Katie Sauks who made the region so proud with a Gold medal in rowing at the Pan Am Games, I’m three times more interested in the Para-Pan Games with Van Nest, Farrell and Crone all in the mix.
I’m Fred Wallace
