Seemingly, in the blink of an eye, 20 years has come and gone as the annual Jeff Preston Celebrity Golf Classic stages a milestone anniversary.
The festivities commence tonight with the opening wine and cheese gala at Saugeen Golf Club, the home of the Preston Classic since Day 1.
Then tomorrow, the Sunrise, Sunset and Legacy 9’s at Saugeen will host more than 200 players and supporters in the annual tournament.
20 years………
I remember several elements from the first one in 1996, and maybe as a testament to how significant this function is, from the outside, there doesn’t seem to be many changes…..
Not in the hosting venue.
Not in the participants.
Not in the massive amount of fund raised.
And certainly not in the emotional rush you get when Jeff Preston takes the mic for a moment during the banquet.
Of course there have been changes over a 20 year span, but at the core, the Jeff Preston Celebrity Classic at Saugeen Golf remains as special as it was when first conceived 2 decades ago.
