Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, brought to you by Auto Logic, the Logical Choice.
The New Hamburg Cubs won the Ontario Amateur Junior Fastball Elimination Tournament over the weekend at Duncan McLellan Park in Owen Sound.
The Cubs were the deserving champions, going 4 & 0 overall, which included 2 victories over the Napanee Shoeless Joe’s team who were the runners up.
Napanee will be the host site for the Canadian Junior Fastball Championships next month, but New Hamburg’s deep roster will make them the favorite going in.
Along with the team title, New Hamburg’s Tyler Pauli was named as the tournament MVP and Greg Hammell was selected as the top pitcher.
The Cubs weren’t the only winners over the weekend.
Owen Sound Fastpitch and the city of Owen Sound also scored big, certainly in the eyes of the O.A.S.A.
There were at least 5 highly ranked executive members at the tournament for various reasons, and they were impressed, but certainly not surprised, that a large provincial event ran smoothly and efficiently.
I’m not sure what’s next in terms of fastball in Owen Sound, but I think it’s safe to say that whether it’s local, provincial or national in scale, the city’s fastball community can handle it.
I’m Fred Wallace
