It was a fitting end to a week that saw two nights of outstanding racing action on the highbanks of Varney as Bill Lovell and Andrea Persons would tie at the finish of the Pure Stock race Friday night. Things kicked of Wednesday with a Canada Day special with the Fun Stock class getting it all going and it would be fitting that they end a great week of racing action with something never seen before, a tie for a feature win even after reviewing the T.W. Robarts photos of the finish no clear winner could be decided, it was that close!
In Wednesday night action the Outlaw Late Models took to the track and it was good to see the return of the #11 Cole Weber from New Hamburg who took heavy damage after a run in on the front straight away just a couple of weeks ago. In feature one the #11 was quick to work his way to the front of the field and just as he did his motor would let go looking to end his comeback early but with a lot of help and the fact they had a spare motor sitting at just down the road at Aldersons Garage in Varney the crew was able to do a complete engine change in less than one hour and get Weber back out for the second feature. After the exit of the #11 from the first feature #75 Jeff Cassidy from Cambridge was able to take over the lead and hold off the rest of the competitors to put his car into victory lane for the first time this season. Second would go to #40 Mark Dixon from Durham, third #36 Gary Elliott from Waterdown, fourth #00 Trevor Thompson from Elmira and fifth #3 Jeff Dafoe from Britton. In feature two with an untested motor and starting at the rear of the field #11 Cole Weber was a driver with something to prove and it didnt take him long to prove it. By halfway through this feature he would work his way to the front and not look back on his way to the checker flag. Second would go to #40 Mark Dixon, third #75 Jeff Cassidy, fourth #36 Gary Elliott and fifth #00 Trevor Thompson.
In Crazy Train action on Wednesday night it would be the Rockford Rednecks taking the first feature over 454 Go Baby Go and Crazy Till We Die II. In feature two 454 Go Baby Go would not be denied as they would take this one over Texas Traincar Massacre, Crazy Till We Die II and the Rockford Rednecks.
Mini Trucks also took to the track on Friday night and in feature one after taking a few laps to get a handle on her truck #7 Kendra Cassidy of Cambridge would race past the #88 Bubba Brown from London and not look back as she cruised her way to the checker. #88 Bubba Brown would be second with third going to #67 Rick Basket. Feature two saw repairs made to the #1 mini truck piloted by Gord Bennett Full Throttle owner as he missed feature one and it would not take him long to move from the back to the lead. Once out in front he was able to build a good lead over the field but as the race would go on the #1 truck seemed to lose some of its speed as the #7 Kendra Cassidy found what the #1 was losing and if she had a couple more laps could have beaten the #1. Third would go #88 Bubba Brown and fourth #67 Rick Basket.
Super Trucks would also be part of the racing action Friday night with #69 Mike Becker from Cambridge taking both features. Second in feature one would be #7 Brody Schiestel from Palmerston, third #12 George Carter from Cambridge and fourth #112 Pete Bennett from Cambridge. In feature two second would go to Pete Bennett, third Brody Schiestel and fourth George Carter.
In Winged Modified action #33 Tom Houghton from Kitchener would work his way to the front in feature one and return to his familiar location parked in victory lane. Second would go to #36 Dave Hodgkinson from Breslau, third #0 Cliff Hodgkinson from Breslau and fourth #46 Lisa Hodgkinson from Breslau. In feature two Houghtons string of wins would be broken as #36 Dave Hodgkinson would grab the checker away. Second was #0 Cliff Hodgkinson, third #33 Tom Houghton, fourth #46 Lisa Hodgkinson.
Mini Stocks where one of the classes doing double duty this past week and as always putting on a great show. On Wednesday in feature one it would be #36 Corry Young from Owen Sound bring home the first checker. Second would go to #63 Brandon Crumbie from Cookstown, third #35 Tim Tolton from Guelph, fourth #73 Scott Schlueter from Stratford and rounding out the top five #64 Dave Crumbie from Beeton. In feature two #35 Tim Tolton would get the jump on the field and have the car to beat as they continue to make changes all the time to fine tune their setup. Second was #36 Corry Young, third #6 Travis McLean from Harriston with a strong race, fourth #64 Dave Crumbie and fifth #63 Brandon Crumbie. Back again on Friday night with a quick one day off the #35 this night piloted by Bobby Tolton of Rockwood would pick up where his dad Tim left off as he was able to put it in victory lane for both feature races. Second in feature one would be #36 Corry Young, third #73 Scott Schlueter who had to do a lot of front end work in a short period of time after a run in with the wall in feature two Wednesday night. Fourth would be #63 Brandon Crumbie and fifth #6 Travis McLean. In feature two second would go to #73 Scott Schlueter, third #36 Corry Young, fourth #63 Brandon Crumbie followed by his dad #64 Dave Crumbie.
The highlight this week had to be the Fun Stock class. Billed as a starter class for people wanting to get into racing without spending a lot of money this class attracts all sorts of drivers, they range in age from 13 years old and up both male and female and ranging from novice to drivers with years behind the wheel and with car counts growing it is the class to watch at Full Throttle. On Wednesday in feature one it would be one of the veterans taking the first checker flag #48 John Green of Drayton, second would be #5 Jeramy Duguay from Hanover, third #84 Andrea Parsons from Clifford, fourth #73 Sherri McIntyre from Bayfield and fifth #32 Ben Klages from Hanover. In feature two it would be #34 Alex Hastie from Durham bring home another checker followed by #5 Jeramy Duguay, third #84 Andrea Parsons, fourth #25 Billy Lovell from Mildmay and rounding out the top five #73 Sheri McIntyre. In Fridays action fans where again treated to more great racing action and got to witness something that has never happened before. In feature two it was determined that a winner could not be decided even after reviewing photos of the finish it was just too close to call. So with that #25 Billy Lovell and #84 Andrea Parsons would both take their places in victory lane and share the win. #25 Lovell was leading in the late going with #84 Parsons hot on his heels then coming out of corner four on the final lap she pulled to the inside of Lovell as they drag raced to the checker to the delight of the fans. Third in this race would go to #48 John Green, fourth #14 Luke Bos from Conn, fifth #71 Justin McKague from Teeswater. In feature one a last lap caution would set up a one lap dash to the checker. With the field doubled up #14 Luke Bos would lead them to the green but the speedy #34 Alex Hastie was able to edge him out on the high side for the checker. Third would go to #9 Sandy Eccles from Mount Forest, fourth #4 Dawson Urbanek from Holyrood and rounding out the top five #5 Jeramy Duguay.
