Hi, this is Fred Wallace with Off the Wire, brought to you by Auto Logic, the Logical Choice
The NHL Entry Draft begins tomorrow night at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida.
There’s a good chance the Edmonton Oilers will use the first pick overall to select Connor McDavid.
After that, I’m pretty much out in left field.
Will the Owen Sound Attack have players drafted ? That depends on who you talk to and at what point of the day.
In general, I don’t anticipate this to be a banner weekend for prospects from the Attack, but in fairness, who really knows the needs of an NHL team.
The Attack brass will be at the draft- they always are.
However, they will be spending less time preparing for the upcoming CHL Import Draft at the NHL function, since the paperwork is in place for both Damir Sharipzyanov and Petrus Palmu to return.
Owen Sound does have a vacancy in the coaching department with the departure of Daniel Tkaczuk to Kitchener, but it’s unlikely they’ll recruit a candidate this weekend.
Of greater ongoing interest for the Attack will be status of Assistant Coach Drew Bannister who will be interviewed for at least one OHL vacancy and conceivably, after years with both Owen Sound and Hockey Canada, may be in line for something bigger.
And trades. The OHL Window closes at the end of the month and the landscape for a transaction looks fairly barren heading to the NHL Entry Draft starting tomorrow
I’m Fred Wallace
