Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, brought to you by Auto Logic, the Logical Choice. “
Life is a teeter-totter. Sometimes up. Sometimes down. Almost never in perfect balance.
As enthused as I was about the Owen Sound Minor Lacrosse Father’s Day Weekend Tournament, I was equally discouraged by the end of the Junior B Lacrosse season for the Garb & Gear-Coldwell Banker Junior NorthStars.
Owen Sound went 4-15 & 1 this year and, for a 5th consecutive year, missed the post season.
I’m not disappointed with the organization. From the outside, it certainly appears the executive members and volunteers have done everything possible to provide an excellent competitive program for the players.
In no way do I think this is a coaching or management issue, although Keith Peer’s decision to step down indicates that he believes it’s time for an alteration.
And I’m definitely not disappointed in the players. They lost 15 games this year, but very seldom would the margin of defeat be considered lopsided….that’s probably of little consolation, but it does represent the NorthStars competed from start to finish.
No, I’m just disappointed that half a decade has elapsed with no Junior B playoffs, primarily because a half dozen players in most years are good enough, or eager enough, to play Junior A elsewhere while the local NorthStars have to compete to their best of their ability with what remains.
The Junior B Greys in hockey vanished, partially due to similar circumstances, and I’d hate to see a repeat for the Junior B Lacrosse program.
I’m Fred Wallace
