Hi this is Fred Wallace with Off the Wire, brought to you by Auto Logic, the Logical Choice
The annual Owen Sound Minor Lacrosse Father’s Day Tournament wrapped up on Sunday afternoon with 5 very good championship games at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Centre.
While the Bantam Final that saw Newmarket edge St Catharines 6-5 in overtime was the best match of the day, I was impressed that every category, from Tyke through Midget, produced an exceptional game.
I was also happy for the organizing committee who had a very good ” first run ” at the helm.
The tournament has been in existence for almost 3 decades, but for the bulk of that time, the Kazarian Family and key organizers handled the many chores involved.
The new committee, with plenty of aid from the previous regime, managed to conduct an excellent weekend that was HUGE for lacrosse and huge for the city and region.
Two very visible examples were the packed parking lot at various accommodations and the run on produce at the local grocery stores.
If there was a disappointment, it might have been the inability of an Owen Sound Minor team to advance to Championship Sunday- but that aspect can be rectified next year.
For now, congratulations to Minor Lacrosse on continuing an exceptional Owen Sound event.
I’m Fred Wallace
