Hi this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, brought to you by Auto Logic…..the Logical Choice !
In a bit of a rarity, I attended the Annual General Meeting of the Owen Sound Minor Hockey Group in late April.
I’ve never felt the need to attend before, because put quite simply, in my view, Minor Hockey in the city has always been very well operated and certainly has never needed my input.
And truthfully, nothing in that regard has changed, whatsoever. The Group is in very capable hands, now, and hopefully forever.
I attended the AGM to make a simple request; a proposal that the number of games in the Novice House League be reduced, and the number of practices for that age group, 7 & 8 year olds, be increased.
There’s nothing wrong with the Novice House League as it stands; Nothing.
But after a year of being involved, I felt more practice time would mean more skating; more skating should mean better skating; and better skating should equate to better players, and, in my view, better players are happier players, more likely to continue with the Group in both the short term and the long term.
The Owen Sound Minor Hockey Group listened to my rationale. They didn’t make any promises or commitments, which I really wasn’t expecting right then and there.
So we’ll see come October if Bayshore Skate Sharpening, Armstrong Water, Red Leckie & the CUPE Local 443 Penguins have a few less games and a few more practice hours.
I’m Fred Wallace
