Among the most common questions I get asked throughout the year is, ” when does Hanover Raceway open ? “
The question evokes both delight and dismay for me.
The delight naturally is to be associated with an operation and promotion that has existed for 50 years from a betting standpoint, and for more than a century and a half with the Hanover, Bentinck and Brant Agricultural Society.
The dismay is equally understandable.
When I started at Hanover a dozen years ago, the GM at the time, Al Keeling, optimistically envisioned the day that the Raceway could operate and thrive year round.
Sadly, ironically, and thanks to government policy, Al Keeling’s vision of 50-60 dates has been scaled back to 16 nights of action.
But rather than ride the negative train, we’ll focus on the positives ahead.
Opening Night is……………..Saturday
Racing continues every Saturday night and has all kinds of features including the annual Country 93 Survivor Handicapping Series.
As always, the highlight nights are the Dream of Glory Eliminations July 25th followed by the Dream of Glory Final on Saturday August 1st ……….and yes, there will be a Fireworks Show.
The track takes a 1 week break for the Ag Fair and then runs every Saturday through to the end of the year, September 26th
When does Hanover Raceway open ? Saturday with the first race at 7:15 pm.
