Hi this is Fred Wallace with Off The Wire, brought to you by Auto Logic…….the Logical Choice.
The Oshawa Generals have a chance to go directly to the MasterCard Memorial Cup Championship tonight when they face the Western Hockey League Champion Kelowna Rockets in Quebec City.
The Rockets could also advance to the final, but they’ll need to win tonight and get some help tomorrow from Rimouski
And…….the host Quebec Remparts also have a shot at getting to the final directly, but they need Kelowna to win tonight followed by a big margin victory tomorrow in the round robin finale against Rimouski.
In what has been a tight round robin, excepting last night’s Kelowna win over Rimouski, there are all kinds of possibilities still in play.
The easiest path to follow is the potential direction of the Generals who quite simply, if they win again tonight will finish 3 & 0 in the round robin and advance directly to the Championship Game for the first time since they won the Championship at Hamilton 25 years ago.
It couldn’t have worked out much better for the tournament with two games to go in the round robin, both of which could be highly meaningful in the swerve of events.
What’s been fairly evident to this point is that there’s precious little to choose between the 4 entries.
They could play this tournament over several weeks and likely get several different results.
So, a victory by Oshawa tonight would be truly significant for the OHL Champions, giving them a direct route to the final and meaning that two very good teams will be eliminated before Oshawa has to play again on Sunday
I’m Fred Wallace
