Hi this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, brought to you by Auto Logic…..the Logical Choice !
The Ontario Broomball Championship Tournament in Owen Sound in late March was a smashing success, certainly a credit to the organizing committee, but also a nice testament to the facilities we have in the city to host such events.
Having said that, it is worth noting the primary obstacle for the organizers to deal with, rather than overcome, was the lack of a hall at the Rec Centre.
Agree or disagree, like or not, the truth is the difference between any event in this city being a success or a major success is tied to the liquor licence and a capable venue in which to distribute the product.
It’s that simple.
In the case of the Rec Centre, provisions and alterations were made by the Broomball group with city, fire & police officials and while they were passable, it was more of a case of getting by rather than fully accommodating.
I understand economics, and I fully realize that not every aspect desired for a ” dream ” facility can be accommodated.
Owen Sound has an exceptional venue in the Julie McArthur Regional Rec Centre.
But for any community going forward, or any future facility in this city, the need for a banquet room or community hall was exemplified by the Broomball Championships in March
I’m Fred Wallace
