Hi this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, brought to you by Auto Logic…..the Logical Choice !
The Greater Metro Junior Hockey League has no shortage of detractors.
Yet the league, which includes entries at Meaford & Markdale, is heading towards its 10th anniversary season, so either they’re on to something, or they’re masters of survival.
And not only is the GMHL heading to their 10th year, the league membership is expanding like rabbits.
For the 10th anniversary season there currently are more than 30 teams scheduled to compete.
That group of 30 represents almost a 30 percent jump over last year with more than a half dozen new teams.
The London Lakers, the Kingsville Kings, the Oshawa Riverkings, plus Bobcaygeon is back- now known as the Storm.
Next, the Komoka Dragons, the Colborne Chiefs, the Haliburton Wolves & most interesting, the Norfolk Vikings who will be owned and operated by Michael Fish who was at the helm of the Knights of Meaford when last season started.
As I said, the Greater Metro Junior Hockey League has a large following of ” haters ” to use the contemporary lingo.
But from my perspective, it’s never dull, never stable or predictable and truthfully, almost always entertaining.
I’m Fred Wallace
